Bears promote LB Devante Bond to active roster vs. Bucs

The Chicago Bears promoted linebacker Devante Bond from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of their Thursday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This is the second time the Bears have activated Bond from the practice squad this season, with his last action coming in Week 2 against the New York Giants. In that game, Bond saw eight special teams snaps.

As agreed upon in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, before every game NFL teams can promote up to two players from their practice squad without releasing anyone, which would increase their active roster from 53 to 55.

With safety and special teams ace Sherrick McManis doubtful for tonight’s game, Bond’s experience on special teams was likely the reason he was called up.

Bond will face off against his old team in the Bucs, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In four years with Tampa Bay, he played in 29 games, including six starts, where he recorded 26 tackles and one tackle-for-loss.

Bond signed with the Bears last December, where he played in the final three games of the 2019 season.
