Bears preseason shocker: Colts QB Andrew Luck retiring from NFL

While the Bears’ preseason game against the Colts might not have been must-see-television with both teams not playing their starters, there was a storyline that overshadowed a preseason game.

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, due to being “mentally worn down” and is “checking out.”

Luck will make it official at a press conference Sunday.

The news comes as a shock as Luck, who turns 30 on Sept. 12, is still in the prime of his career. He is recovering from an offseason leg injury that’s lingered into the preseason.

Luck has already spoken with Colts owner Jim Irsay to inform him of the decision, which now leaves Jacoby Brissett as Indianapolis’ starting quarterback.
