The Chicago Bears (0-3) were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs (2-1), 41-10, where Chicago dropped to 13 straight losses dating back to last season.
Pro Football Focus handed out player grades for those who took a snap in the Bears’ Week 3 loss (minimum 9reps), and we broke them down by offense and defense, analyzing the three highest- and lowest-graded players on each side, as well as some other notable performers.
Buy Bears TicketsThere were a few surprises — and then some not surprises — in terms of the highest- and lowest-graded players, both on offense and defense. Here’s a look:
Top 3 offense
- QB Justin Fields – 71.6
- WR Tyler Scott – 68.8
- RB Roschon Johnson – 64.7
Believe it or not, Fields is the team’s highest-rated offensive player. Fields completed 11-of-22 passes for 99 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He added 11 carries for 47 yards. He earned respectable marks in passing (71.0) and run game (67.7). Scott, who played 10 snaps, had one catch for six yards on three targets. He earned a strong 69.1 mark in passing but was marked down in run blocking (52.9). Johnson continues to impress as a rookie, where he had eight carries for 38 yards (4.8 average). He also had two catches for 11 yards. Johnson earned a solid mark in run game (72.2) and was so-so in passing (60.6) and run blocking (59.9). Uncharacteristically for Johnson, he earned an abysmal 15.4 mark in pass blocking.
Bottom 3 offense
- WR Darnell Mooney – 45.1
- RG Ja’Tyre Carter – 46.2
- C Lucas Patrick – 53.6
Mooney was the lowest-graded player on offense. He had zero catches and was targeted just once. Mooney earned poor marks in run blocking (33.9) and passing (49.4). Carter started at right guard in place of Nate Davis, who’s been dealing with a personal, and it wasn’t the kind of performance he was hoping for. Carter, who allowed one pressure, scored well in pass blocking (66.3) but struggled mightily in run blocking (40.9). Patrick, who also allowed one pressure, was also solid in pass protection, earning a 69.7, but was marked down in run blocking with a 48.8 mark.
Top 3 defense
- LB Noah Sewell – 90.9
- CB Jaylon Johnson – 85.7
- LB T.J. Edwards – 71.5
Sewell only saw 10 reps, but they were strong ones, as he was the highest-graded player on defense for Chicago. Sewell, who replaced an injured Tremaine Edmunds, had four tackles. He earned strong marks across the board in run defense (77.6), tackling (76.1) and coverage (71.6). Johnson also had a strong game with two tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Johnson earned an impressive 90.0 mark in coverage, 75.4 mark in tackling but was marked down in run defense (50.3). Unfortunately, he left the game early with a hamstring injury. Edwards had a game-high 17 tackles, including two tackles for a loss. He earned impressive marks in run defense (87.2) and tackling (70.3) but was marked down in coverage (51.7) and pass rush (58.3).
Bottom 3 defense
- CB Josh Blackwell – 23.4
- DE Dominique Robinson – 30.3
- DT Zacch Pickens – 37.4
Blackwell, who played just nine reps, was the lowest-graded player for Chicago on defense. While he had strong marks in tackling (79.7) and run defense (68.0), he struggled in coverage (23.0). To make matters worse, Blackwell exited the game with a hamstring injury. Robinson had three tackles, including one for a loss. He earned low marks across the board in tackling (28.6), run defense (34.9), pass rush (53.9) and coverage (60.0). Pickens, who had two tackles, earned a strong tackling mark (68.4). But he was marked down in run defense (40.0), pass rush (53.7) and coverage (60.0).
Other notables
- CB Tyrique Stevenson – 65.1
- WR DJ Moore – 62.6
- RB Khalil Herbert – 54.9
Stevenson, who had two tackles, was one of the higher-graded defensive players. Stevenson earned strong marks in tackling (74.0), run defense (72.3) but was marked down in coverage (60.4). Unfortunately, he exited the game with what the team called an illness. Moore led the Bears with three catches for 41 yards, including his first touchdown as a Chicago Bear. But he also had a costly drop early in the game, which likely contributed to his 62.0 passing mark. He also earned a 60.1 in run blocking. Meanwhile, Herbert had seven carries for 31 yards (4.4 average) and two catches for four yards with a costly fumble early in the game. He was among the lowest-graded offensive players with low marks in passing (27.7) and run blocking (59.7) but solid marks in pass blocking (76.5) and run game (69.6).
