Bears OT T.J. Clemmings out for season

The depth of the Chicago Bears’ offensive line took a hit Monday with the news of OT T.J. Clemming’s season-ending injury.

The oft-injured lineman suffered a quad injury during Saturday’s preseason victory over the Colts.

“Season-ending quad injury for tackle T.J. Clemmings suffered in win at Indianapolis Saturday,” tweeted WBBM’s Jeff Joniak. “Recovered from ’18 ACL playing for Raiders to earn a shot w/Bears.”

Clemmings’ injury opens the door for undrafted rookie Alex Bars (Notre Dame) to fill the void at swing-tackle. In fact, Bars stepped in after Clemmings left the Colts game.

“I thought he did a great job,” Nagy said of Bars’ performance. “I was happy for him. You never know what you’re going to get, but he does have experience playing at Notre Dame there at that position. You could see that come out, which was good.”

The Bears have one preseason game remaining on their schedule to determine who will make the final 53-man roster, but with Clemmings’ injury and Rashaad Coward battling an elbow ailment of his own, Bars’ chances have gone way up.

He’s certainly already impressed Nagy.

“When you got some of your linemen on the sideline coming up to you that aren’t playing telling you man, he’s really doing well, you know he stands out.”
