Bears’ options to replace Bryce Callahan in free agency just got stronger

If the Chicago Bears decide to let cornerback Bryce Callahan depart via free agency, they’ll have a handful of appealing options to sign to a team-friendly deal to replace him.

One new name entered the mix Monday.

The Panthers are releasing Captain Munnerlyn, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Munnerlyn, who signed a four-year, $17 million contract in 2017, played in all 16 games for Carolina last season. He was on the field for 630 snaps, per Pro Football Focus, and finished the year with a 61.6 grade. He’s been a bit of a disappointment since signing with the Panthers, but he’s a battle-tested veteran who GM Ryan Pace should have little trouble signing at a fraction of Callahan’s cost.

Munnerlyn had 47 tackles and one interception in 2018.
