Bears open as 5.5-point favorites over Chargers in Week 8

The Chicago Bears (3-3) are coming off an absolutely abysmal loss to the New Orleans Saints (6-1) where the 36-25 score doesn’t begin to tell the story of the Bears’ offensive struggles.

And yet, the team that was once again embarrassed on a national stage might have caught the right opponent in Week 8. But then again, this is the same team that couldn’t beat a Saints team minus its future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees and Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara.

The Bears have opened as 5.5-point favorites over the Los Angeles Chargers, according to BetMGM.

Not unlike the Bears, the Chargers are struggling mightily, coming off a 23-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans. But that’s no guarantee that the Bears will come out and suddenly look like a different, better, football team.

While there’s no reason to believe that the Bears offense can put together a decent product on the field, if they can just find a way to sustain drives to give their defense a break perhaps the Bears can return to their winning formula in 2019: Let the defense win it, don’t let the offense lose it.
