Bears outside linebacker Robert Quinn, a key part of their pass rush, missed at least his fourth consecutive practice Friday because of an ankle injury. The team listed him as doubtful for the season opener Sunday at the Lions.
Quinn, a 10th-year veteran, seldom practiced in full during the preseason, and coach Matt Nagy said he was on his own conditioning program after having his training interrupted by a personal issue.
Nagy’s only clarification on the ankle injury was that it was unrelated to Quinn’s training camp program. He has been adamant about giving the absolute least information possible about injuries this season.
“I’m not going to get into all of that with any of the injury stuff,” he said Thursday when asked when and how Quinn got hurt. “I know y’all understand this. It’s not something I mean to or no disrespect to any of y’all.”
The Bears built their defense around Khalil Mack and Quinn at outside linebackers and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks in the middle. They targeted Quinn as an upgrade over Leonard Floyd, a former first-round pick they released in March, and signed him to a five-year, $70 million contract.
Quinn has 80.5 career sacks, including 11.5 for the Cowboys last season.
