Bears OLB Khalil Mack: Last year ‘wasn’t good enough’

There’s a lot to be said about what the Chicago Bears accomplished last season.

It’s not easy going from worst-to-first, winning 12 games, winning your division or a defense accumulating a league-best 27 turnovers. And yet, the Bears did just that with a new offense and a rookie coach that inspired them to be “obsessed to be the best.”

But that was last season.

And last season ended in the wild card round of the playoffs off a Cody Parkey double-doink missed field goal that won’t soon be forgotten.

Despite the gut wrenching loss, the 2018 season was viewed as a success. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky showed growth in his first season under Nagy, the defense was arguably the best in the NFL and the mindset moving forward was that the best is yet to come.

But for All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack, last season’s success “wasn’t good enough.” Not even close.

Throughout the offseason, it’s been a shared reaction from players and coaches alike. Yes, last year was a success. But last season is last season. And with the talent on the Bears’ roster, simply making the playoffs isn’t good enough.

Maybe for the John Fox Bears, who never came close. But for the Nagy-led Bears — a team with the talent and hunger to not only chase great but achieve greatness — it won’t be good enough until the Bears bring home a Super Bowl championship.
