Bears offense looked competent on opening touchdown drive

Following a brutal offensive showing against the Cleveland Browns, the Chicago Bears were determined to rebound in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. So much so that they elected to receive the ball after winning the coin toss.

And guess what? The Bears looked like a competent NFL offense.

Chicago marched 75 yards in 12 plays in 6:11 to score a touchdown on their opening possession — a four-yard touchdown run by running back David Montgomery to give the Bears a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Bears ran the ball nine times on that possession, which included Montgomery’s six carries for 31 yards and his score.

Rookie quarterback Justin Fields completed all three of his passes for 29 yards, including a 21-yard pass to receiver Darnell Mooney.

The Bears lead the Lions 7-0 in the first quarter.
