Bears name new public-address announcer

Tim Sinclair is the Bears’ new public address announcer.

The Bears’ new public address announcer will sound familiar to some Chicagoans.

Tim Sinclair, who has spent six seasons with the Chicago Fire and 10 with the University of Illinois, is taking over Soldier Field announcing duties.

The 42-year-old will replace Jim Riebandt, who retired at the end of last season after 37 years.

“I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and watched the Bears win the 1985 Super Bowl,” Sinclair, who was born in Mahomet, said in a statement. “Now I get to be a fan with a microphone. Taking that seat at Soldier Field is an honor and a privilege, and I can’t wait to get started.”

He’ll begin his Bears career in front of a mostly empty stadium on Sept. 20; the Bears aren’t allowing fans at Soldier Field to start the season.

Sinclair spent the last two years as the Indiana Pacers announcer and cohosts a television show in Champaign. He spent the last month in bubbles for both the NBA and WNBA.
