Danny Trevathan left Sunday’s game with a grisly-looking injury to his left elbow.

The Bears’ inside linebacker took himself out of the game after chasing quarterback Jeff Driskel on a second-down play during the Lions’ second drive. Replay showed his elbow bend bad the wrong way when he fell on Driskel.

Trevathan went to the Bears’ injury tent and then the locker room. The team first said he was questionable to return in the game — and later, at halftime, ruled him out.

The injury is not unlike the one that befell the other player considered the heart of the Bears. Akiem Hicks dislocated his elbow in London against the Raiders in Week 5, and was placed on injured reserve.

Nick Kwiatkoski replaced Trevathan and is calling the defensive plays.
