Bears KR Cordarrelle Patterson named to All-Pro first team

There’s no better kick returner in the game than Cordarrelle Patterson, who has proven as much since joining the Bears two years ago.

Patterson was named to the All-Pro first team by the Associated Press’ panel of sportswriters on Friday, receiving 43 votes. He was the Chicago Bears’ lone All-Pro first team selection.

Patterson was second int he league with a 29.1-yard average on 35 kickoff returns. He even made history with his 104-yard return touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings, which was his eighth career kickoff-return touchdown. That tied Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington for the most in NFL history.

Patterson’s 104-yard return was the longest in Bears history, surpassing the late Gale Sayers, who returned one for 103 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1967.

One of the noteworthy snubs was inside linebacker Roquan Smith, who was named to the All-Pro second team. Smith was one of the best linebackers in the league in 2020, and the lack of recognition for Smith is absurd.

Smith had 139 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions this season. Here’s where Smith ranked among Fred Warner, Darius Lenoard and Bobby Wagner, who were named to the All-Pro first team.

Outside linebacker Khalil Mack was also named to the All-Pro second team.
