Bears K Eddy Piñeiro named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

It’s a good week to be Bears kicker Eddy Piñeiro.

Piñeiro has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his Week 2 performance against the Denver Broncos.

Piñeiro, who connected on a 53-yard game-winning field that saved the Bears from an 0-2 start, was perfect on the day connecting on kicks from 40, 52 and 53 yards. He also made his lone extra point.

“It means everything,” Piñeiro said after the game Sunday. “I’ve been working my butt off. All the stuff that I’ve been through, the ‘Augusta silence,’ the kickers getting cut left and right, all the crazy things going on. It was a pretty cool moment to have this opportunity.”

Piñeiro connected on two 50-yard field goals in the game, the first time a Bears kicker has done so since Robbie Gould in 2011.

Piñeiro is one of five kickers who are perfect on field goals this season, with a minimum of four attempts.

The biggest concern for Chicago heading into the season was kicker, but it appears that the Bears might’ve found their guy in Piñeiro.
