Bears’ Justin Fields, Darnell Mooney were burning the midnight oil at Halas Hall

The Chicago Bears are hoping they have something special with the Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney pairing, two young players who have shown promise early in their careers.

This offseason, Fields and Mooney have nearly been joined at the hip working to build their chemistry when they haven’t been at Halas Hall. And when they’ve been at the team facility, that hard work has continued.

In an interview with Bleacher Report, Fields explained that he admires Mooney’s work ethic. He also revealed that they recently were at Halas Hall until after midnight working on plays and preparing for the following day of practice.

“How hard he works,” Fields said of Mooney. “He’s already talented; he’s fast and has great hands. On top of that, he works harder than anybody I know other than myself. A couple nights ago, we were in the facility until 12:30 a.m. going through plays and walking through plays for the next day at practice.”

Fields, last year’s 11th overall pick, is coming off a rocky rookie season. But he showed plenty of promise and has been hard at work this offseason, where he’s preparing as the starting quarterback.

Mooney, a former fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, is coming off his first 1,000-yard season. Now, he finds himself cemented as the top wideout on the team following the departure of Allen Robinson in free agency.

Last season, we saw flashes of what the Fields-Mooney connection can become. Now, we’ll see if that hard work pays off.
