Bears injury report: David Montgomery practices in full, Robert Quinn DNP on Thursday

The Chicago Bears released their second injury report of the season ahead of their Week 1 match-up against the Detroit Lions, and there’s some good news and bad news.

Running back David Montgomery, who suffered a groin injury two weeks ago, was a full participant in practice on Thursday. That’s certainly encouraging for Montgomery’s status for Sunday’s game, although Montgomery said he’s taking a cautious approach and not trying to rush himself back.

“I’d be hurting the team more if I was to come back earlier than I was supposed to and continue to be hurt and hurt myself again,” Montgomery told reporters before Thursday’s practice. “So I hurt the team, but I hurt myself, too. The biggest thing is being smart with myself, being smart with my body and being sure I communicate with the training staff and the coaches to let them know how I feel and taking it one day at a time.”

But if Montgomery practices in full again tomorrow and doesn’t suffer a setback, there’s a good chance that he’ll play Sunday against Detroit, which is great news for the Bears.

While there’s good news on the Montgomery front, the same can’t be said for Chicago’s pass rushers. For the second straight day, outside linebacker Robert Quinn did not practice with an ankle injury. At this point, it’s time to start worrying about Quinn’s availability when the Bears face the Lions.

His running mate Khalil Mack was once again limited with a knee injury, although Matt Nagy believes he’ll be fine.

Elsewhere, receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (knee), receiver Javon Wims (achilles), offensive lineman Germain Ifedi (tricep), cornerback Buster Skrine (finger) and offensive line Jason Spriggs (knee) all practiced in full.
