Bears inactives: QB Nick Foles out; Tyler Bray backs up Mitch Trubisky vs. Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Bears were hoping quarterback Nick Foles could be available as an emergency option Sunday, but they scratched him an hour and a half before kickoff against the Packers. Foles is inactive because of his hip injury, and the Bears will rely on practice squad quarterback Tyler Bray as Mitch Trubisky’s backup.

The Bears will also go without defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (hamstring), but left tackle Charles Leno (toe) will play.

It will be Trubisky’s first start since getting benched for Foles in Week 3, when his third-quarter interception led to the Bears falling behind the Falcons 26-10. Foles led a stunning comeback with three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to win 30-26.

Bears coach Matt Nagy left it open-ended when discussing how much of an audition this will be for Trubisky. Based on his comments, it appears he has a chance to win his job back for the long term regardless of Foles’ health. The Bears’ next game is Sunday at home against the Lions.

Here are the Bears’ inactives vs. the Packers:

QB Nick Foles
OL Lachavious Simmons
WR Javon Wims

DT Akiem Hicks
S Sherrick McManis
OLB Trevis Gipson
