Bears HR Department Involved in Alan Williams Stepping Aside After ‘Inappropriate’ Conduct, per Report

The human resources department of the Chicago Bears played a role in former defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigning from his position Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Williams was reportedly involved in some some ill-suited behavior.

“I’m told it was not criminal activity, but it was inappropriate, and the Bears’ HR department was involved in the decision for Alan Williams to step aside,” Schefter said on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown.

With Williams’s departure, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus will handle the defensive play calling in Chicago’s game on Sunday against the Chiefs. Prior to Sunday’s report, the 53-year-old wrote in a statement that he need to take a step back to take care of his “health” and “family.”

Williams had been away from before announcing his decision and did not coach the Bears in their game against the Buccaneers on Sunday. Before Williams joined Eberflus in Chicago ahead of the 2022 season, he served as a longstanding defensive assistant for the Colts, Vikings and Lions.

The Bears (0-2) will seek to earn their first win of the season when Chicago takes the field against Kansas City.
