Bears fans react to report Ted Phillips is considering move away from football operations

With just four games left in the disappointment that’s been the Chicago Bears’ 2021 season, there’s a possible light at the end of the tunnel during what’s gearing up to be an offseason of change.

While it’s become clear that head coach Matt Nagy is out at season’s end, there’s a chance general manager Ryan Pace could follow. But the change doesn’t appear to stop there.

According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, President and CEO Ted Phillips has privately discussed distancing himself from football operations.

According to multiple sources connected to the team, Phillips has privately discussed distancing himself from football operations in recent months, making a frank acknowledgement to some confidants that the organization would benefit from a leader with greater football aptitude to oversee those in charge of the on-field product.

As you can imagine, the report has generated a ton of reaction from the Bears fanbase, where there’s been everything from relief to hesitancy to, dare I say, hope.
