Bears expected to sign CB Buster Skrine to 3-year deal

The Chicago Bears will sign free-agent cornerback Buster Skrine to a three-year deal, according to multiple reports. The deal will be worth $16.5 million with $8.5 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Skrine played the last four seasons with the Jets, making 48 starts and three interceptions over that span.

Skrine received a 57.3 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2018, which ranked 28th among Jets defenders. Certainly not great.

But Skrine is a respected slot corner in league circles and makes sense from a salary cap standpoint at less than $6 million per season. His addition all but ends Bryce Callahan’s time as a Bear, and is the second bargain signing so far for Chicago in free agency; running back Mike Davis agreed to a two-year deal Monday as well.

The Bears still have several questions left to be answered in free agency, notably at safety where Adrian Amos remains unsigned. It doesn’t look like Chicago is willing to spend big dollars on the open market this year, but they might make an exception for one of their own.
