Bears expected to re-sign TE Ben Braunecker to 2-year deal

The Chicago Bears and tight end Ben Braunecker have agreed to terms on a two-year, incentive-laden contract that will keep the former undrafted free agent in Chicago through 2020, according to NBC Sports Chicago’s John Mullin.

Braunecker’s appeared in 36 games since 2016 and has seven catches for 83 yards in his career. He appeared in a career-high 15 games in 2018.

Braunecker is a distant third on the depth chart behind starters Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen, but his value on special teams and overall development as a player since making the jump from the Ivy League to the NFL justify this new deal.

The Bears will look to make a bigger free-agency splash once the legal tampering window opens at 12 noon on March 11. Players can begin to formally sign contracts with their new clubs on March 13.
