Bears DE Roy Robertson-Harris expected to have season-ending shoulder surgery

Chicago Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris may have played his last down in the navy and orange.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Robertson-Harris is expected to undergo shoulder surgery this Wednesday that will put him out for the rest of the season.

Robertson-Harris had already missed Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans due to the injury suffered the week before against the New Orleans Saints. The hulking 6’5″ defensive end was in his fifth season with the Bears. He signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016, but missed the entire year when he was placed on the reserve list.

The veteran out of UTEP totaled seven tackles in eight games for the Bears and is set to be an unrestricted free agent when the season concludes. He was tendered a second-round pick this past spring as a restricted free agent, ultimately signing a one-year deal worth over $3 million.

With Robertson-Harris shelved, the Bears will look to defensive ends Brent Urban and Mario Edwards Jr. to help pick up the slack. Fortunately, both have proven to be valuable pieces on the defensive line this season.
