The Bears’ Bradley Sowell experiment isn’t dead yet.
Three days after cutting their tackle-turned-tight end, the Bears re-signed Sowell on Thursday. To make room on the active roster, they cut rookie running back Kerrith Whyte.
Whyte, who has been inactive on game day the first three weeks of the season, could bounce back to the team’s practice squad. He was a seventh-round draft pick this year.
The team converted Sowell from swing tackle to blocking tight end during the offseason. He made the team but was used sparingly in Week 2 and cut Monday, the day of the Bears’ game against the Redskins.
