Bears cut 7th-round pick Stephen Denmark

Getting drafted is like a badge of honor for NFL players. But it doesn’t guarantee a roster spot, not even in Year 1.

For Chicago Bears seventh-round pick Stephen Denmark, his tenure with the team ended Saturday, per The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain.

Denmark’s ankle injury prevented him from seeing any action this summer and with a roster as competitive as the Bears’, there’s simply no wiggle room for a player who already had a lot to prove as a small-school player from Valdosta State.

Denmark’s unique blend of size (6-3, 220) and athletic ability made him an intriguing developmental project who presented as a player with positional versatility in the secondary. And there’s still a chance he can develop with the Bears as part of the practice squad.
