Bears cornerback Tim Jennings arrested in Georgia

Jan. 07--Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was arrested and admitted into the Gwinnett County Detention Center in Georgia on Wednesday, charged with speeding, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The three charges, according to Gwinnett County records, hold a bond total of $2,711.

Jennings, according to records, was released from jail at 3:41 p.m.

According to Corporal Jake Smith, the Gwinnett County police public information officer, Jennings was stopped just before noon Wednesday traveling on Interstate 85 in Georgia. Jennings, driving his 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG, was observed by the arresting officer as traveling 99 mph in a 65 mph zone.

According to Smith, upon approaching Jennings, "the officer noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverages and began a DUI investigation. Ultimately, Jennings was charged with speeding, DUI, and reckless driving. He was taken into custody and transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center without incident."

The Bears issued a statement Wednesday afternoon:

"We are aware of the reports regarding Tim Jennings' arrest. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the situation."

Jennings is coming off a disappointing 2014 season with the Bears. After signing a four-year, $22.4 million extension in January, he went the entire season without an interception. He was credited by league statistics with 50 tackles, seven passes defensed and one forced fumble.
