Eddie Jackson says Bears are confident Akiem Hicks will return this season

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks returned to the starting lineup Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, but he didn’t last one defensive series.

Hicks, who missed a start as a Bear for the first time with a knee injury in Week 4, suffered an injury to his left elbow early in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Hicks’ elbow got caught between teammate Khalil Mack’s helmet and Raiders running back Josh Jacobs’ pads, and Hicks was in a ton of pain. His return was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to doubtful.

One day after the Bears’ 24-21 loss to the Raiders, Bears safety Eddie Jackson expressed hope that Hicks won’t miss the remainder of the season.

“He’s in good spirits,” Jackson said on the “McNeil & Parkins Show” on Monday, via 670 The Score. “Everybody is confident he can return during the season.”

The Bears defense sorely missed Hicks against the Raiders. Their second-ranked run defense was gashed for 169 yards, including 123 by rookie running back Josh Jacobs.

Bears coach Matt Nagy didn’t offer an immediate update regarding Hicks’ injury during his Monday press conference. The Bears aren’t likely to provide an update until after their bye week.

But it doesn’t sound like Hicks will get his revenge game in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, the team he began his career with.
