If the Chicago Bears were trying to be sneaky at former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields’ pro day on Wednesday, their cover has been blown thanks to the Ohio State Football Twitter account.
During Fields’ second pro day, where he threw in front of at least half a dozen NFL teams, the Buckeyes Twitter account put out a series of images showing the quarterback with various team representatives. One of them happened to be Bears head coach Matt Nagy.

ESPN’s Matt Miller noticed Nagy was in attendance right away, causing a stir on social media.

As Miller points out, the Bears were not one of the teams originally listed to be in attendance for Fields’ pro day.
According to Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer, the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots were the only confirmed teams as of Wednesday morning. All of those teams have higher draft picks than the Bears, who are currently set to pick 20th overall.

Fields, one of the top quarterbacks heading into the NFL Draft, has had quite the pre-draft journey since his college career wrapped up in January. Once considered the second-best quarterback in the draft, there is much speculation he could fall for a variety of reasons. With other prospects such as BYU’s Zach Wilson, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, and even Alabama’s Mac Jones gaining steam over the last month or so, Fields might be the odd man out. Is there a scenario where Chicago might have a shot to trade up for him?
The Bears may just be doing their due diligence on Fields. But even though they signed veteran quarterback Andy Dalton in free agency to be their starter, general manager Ryan Pace didn’t rule out selecting another in the draft at his press conference a few weeks ago. And as we know, Pace isn’t afraid to trade future draft capital to get his guy.
Whether a major move happens or not, Pace and Nagy are clearly interested to see what Fields has to offer. Time will tell just how much they liked what they saw.
