Bears running back Tarik Cohen’s season is likely over after he suffered what the team believes is a torn ACL in his right knee during the 30-26 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
“It looks like he did end up tearing his ACL,” coach Matt Nagy said. “That’ll be a big blow to us.”
Cohen had two rushes for 21 yards and three catches for 20 before getting hurt on a punt in the fourth quarter. He called for a fair catch, but Falcons running back Brian Hill fell into his right leg. Cohen was unable to put any weight on it as he left the field.
The injury came a week after Cohen signed a three-year, $17.3 million contract extension through the 2023 season.
He was the Bears’ top player offensively in 2018 with 1,169 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. After a down season in 2019, Nagy was impressed by his recommitment heading into this season.
If his season is finished, Cohen ends with 14 carries for 74 yards and six catches for 41 yards for an average of 5.8 yards per touch.
