Would Matt Nagy be better off giving up play-calling so he could monitor other reasons for the Bears’ early-game struggles?
“No, I wouldn’t,” the Bears head coach said Wednesday.
Nagy has been part of a situation where a veteran play-caller steps away — in 2017, Chiefs coach Andy Reid gave him the reigns midseason. But it seems like that won’t be the case with the Bears.
Nagy has complained recently about the team’s errors early in games, from penalties to poor offensive line play to, of course, quarterback problems. But he said he’ll remain focused on calling plays — it’s the first aspect of the game he looks at.
“It doesn’t matter whether we score six touchdowns and we have a helluva game, I’ll always check myself and see where am I at in regards to this scheme and whether it works or not,” he said. “Was it there? And also the rhythm.”
