Bears claimed former Vikings WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette off waivers

The Chicago Bears roster has undergone plenty of changes over the last couple of days following the final roster cutdown. After claiming six players off waivers on Wednesday, they added another on Thursday.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bears have claimed former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. He was waived by Minnesota in order to free up a roster for for Jalen Reagor, who was acquired via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Smith-Marsette, a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, appeared in eight games with one start as a rookie. He had five receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith-Marsette joins a receivers group featuring Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle, Velus Jones Jr., Equanimeous St. Brown and Dante Pettis.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise after Chicago placed N’Keal Harry on injured reserve on Thursday, and he won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until Week 5 at the earliest.

It’s also worth noting that Mooney, St. Brown and Pettis are the only current healthy wideouts as Pringle and Jones work through injuries.
