Bears CB Prince Amukamara knows risk of rushing back from hamstring problem

Prince Amukamara doesn’t have to look far to see the dangers of coming back too soon from a hamstring injury.

“It’s tricky with a hamstring,” he said. “You see Adam Thielen.”

The Vikings receiver hurt his hamstring in Week 7, and has missed all but one game since. That game — a loss to the Chiefs — saw Thielen play the Vikings’ first drive, and then not again.

“His has been lingering,” Amukamara said Monday. “You don’t want that to linger. So I think it’s tough but with this game being on the line I’m just trying to make sure and do what’s best for our team.”

Amukamara, who reported the injury to the Bears after the Thanksgiving win against the Lions, said he’s been running well lately.

“We’re going to keep monitoring it and see where I am,” he said.

Coach Matt Nagy said he liked the way second-year cornerback Kevin Toliver played in Amukamara’s place against the Cowboys. He gave up one touchdown, but that was a play in which the Bears were in man coverage with no safety help.

“For the most part, overall I thought it was good for him,” he said. “He got a chance to go out there and see what he could do. Every bit of experience that he can get is only going to help make him better down the road.”
