Bears camp: WR Allen Robinson sits out with ankle injury

The Bears held a controlled scrimmage Saturday without three of their big-name players.

Receiver Allen Robinson hurt his ankle on Friday, coach Matt Nagy said, and did not make an appearance on the sideline Saturday. Neither did defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, who missed his second-straight practice Saturday with a quad injury. Tight end Jimmy Graham, who has impressed teammates as he tries to revitalize his career, watched from the sideline after being given a veteran rest day.

Robinson has a big few weeks in front of him. He’s entering the final year of his contract, and the Bears typically hand out extensions in the days before the season opener.

“We’re just keeping an eye on [his ankle],” Nagy said. “He should be OK. It didn’t make sense to try and push him out there. We’re OK with that. And then the same thing with Hicks.”

Receiver Anthony Miller has been limited in team drills, too, even though Nagy said that was a function of the team trying to be smart.

Jason Spriggs, the leading candidate at swing tackle, was carted off Saturday after Nagy said he hurt his right knee. He was set for tests after practice.
