Bears Burton and Miller ready for training camp, Clinton-Dix likely on PUP

Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Pace delivered some good news and some bad news regarding the team’s injuries heading into training camp later this week.

Speaking in Decatur, IL (where the Bears were founded originally as the Decatur Staleys) Pace and Head Coach Matt Nagy unofficially kicked off training camp as part of the Bears 100th Anniversary celebration. During the press conference, Pace revealed TE Trey Burton and WR Anthony Miller, both recovering from offseason surgeries, will be ready to practice when camp opens.

However, free agent acquisition S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will likely begin camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a sprained knee, along with fellow free agent signee T TJ Clemmings and DE Jonathan Harris.

Burton, who missed the Bears playoff matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles with a groin injury, underwent offseason surgery for a sports hernia earlier this spring. Miller played last season with a separated shoulder and had surgery to repair his injury in January. At the time of each surgery, both players were uncertain to start training camp, although Pace admitted they will likely be brought along slowly.

Meanwhile, Clinton-Dix suffered a knee sprain at the end of minicamp, but Pace explained the former 2014 first-round pick shouldn’t be out long.

The Bears officially report to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL on Thursday, with the first practice taking place on Saturday morning.
