Bears bring in 3 QBs for tryouts

The Beas tried out three quarterbacks, according to the NFL report put out Monday: Kevin Hogan, Kyle Sloter and Mason Fine.

Hogan was a fifth-round pick out of Stanford by Bears coach Matt Nagy’s Chiefs four years ago. The Chiefs cut him at the end of his first camp and he signed with the Browns.

He appeared in eight games for the Browns, totaling four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He started his lone career game in 2017. He most recently was cut by the Broncos a year ago.

Sloter was cut by the Lions in March, and has played on practice squads for the Cardinals and Vikings. He spent the first few months of his career with the Broncos after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Colorado.

Fine is only 5-foot-10, but set passing records at North Texas, the only school to offer him a scholarship. In his junior and senior seasons combined, he threw for 54 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and for 6,613 yards.

The Bears don’t figure to be in the immediate market for a quarterback. They traded for Nick Foles to compete with Mitch Trubisky and re-signed third-stringer Tyler Bray this offseason.

The Bears, though, figure to want a list of potential quarterbacks at hand in case of an outbreak.

They could also stash a fourth quarterback on their roster. They said last month that Bray might be kept apart from their other passers in certain situations to try to keep all three quarterbacks from becoming infected.

The Bears worked out eight players, including former Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise and receiver Austin Proehl. The latter played with Trubisky at North Carolina and is the son of former NFL receiver Ricky Proehl, who spent 1999 with the Bears.
