Bears at Colts inactives: No surprise, the starters are sitting out again

In what will come as a shock to no one, Matt Nagy has elected to rest his starters in the Bears’ third preseason game against the Colts.

Aside from quarterback Mitch Trubisky and four members of the offensive line playing a grand total of three snaps — which included zero throws — in the Bears’ preseason opener, Nagy has rested his starters for the entirety of preseason.

It’s expected to be more of the same in next week’s preseason finale against the Titans.

Instead, Nagy will get four quarters to evaluate the Bears’ reserves, including some that are in need of a bounce-back game after last week’s lackluster performance.

Earlier this week, Nagy said that there were three positional battles he would be paying close attention to during the game: Tight end, inside linebacker and cornerback.

Tonight’s game will also give fans another look at two of the Bears’ young receivers: Javon Wims and Riley Ridley.

Also a focal point in this third preseason game will be kicker Eddy Pineiro, who is the last kicker remaining on Chicago’s roster. But that doesn’t mean that he’s won the starting job yet.

Pineiro will get these next two preseason games to show the Bears that he’s their starting kicker. If not, there will be kickers waiting in the wings of the waiver wire.
