Last year, everyone underestimated the Chicago Bears as they rode a new regime and a new attitude to a 12-4 record and the team’s first NFC North title since 2010.
This season, there’s no playing that underdog role. Now, they’re the hunted. And it shows, as evidenced by the fact that the Bears are the most-bet team to win the Super Bowl this season.
The Bears have all of the pieces to be a title contender. Their defense is arguably the best in the league, and while they have a new defensive coordinator in Chuck Pagano, there’s no reason to believe that this unit will take a step backward.
The offense is entering its second season in Matt Nagy’s scheme, and it’s a better understanding of that scheme that has created high expectations for this unit, as well as third-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The Bears are one of the most complete teams in the league. And while they’ll face a tougher schedule in 2019, there’s a belief that this is a team that can make a deep run in the playoffs — as long as they remedy that kicker issue.
