Bears’ Akiem Hicks starts, then leaves Raiders game with elbow injury

Bears defensive end Akiem Hicks left Sunday’s game. | Ashlee Rezin Garcia/Sun-Times

LONDON — Akiem Hicks was healthy enough to start Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

And then he got hurt.

The Bears’ Pro Bowl defensive end left the game on the Raiders’ first drive after his left arm was pinned between Khalil Mack’s helmet and running back Josh Jacobs’ pads. The Bears confirmed a left elbow injury and said he was questionable to return. After halftime, they downgraded him to doubtful.

He went to the team’s blue injury tent and then the locker room.

The injury looked serious — his elbow appeared to hyperextend or pop out of socket.

Hicks missed his first game ever as a Bears player last week with a right knee injury. He was questionable for Sunday’s game, but played.
