Bears activate OT Jason Spriggs from reserve/COVID-19 list

The Bears’ offensive line was depleted last week by injuries and three positive tests for coronavirus, and it’s starting to come back together. Jason Spriggs, who tested positive Nov. 2, came off the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.

Spriggs is a backup swing tackle who will start in place of injured right tackle Bobby Massie. That means Rashaad Coward will move back to left guard after starting at right tackle against the Titans.

The Bears are still waiting for center Cody Whitehair and backup Lachavious Simmons to be cleared to return. Whitehair is dealing with a calf injury as well and might have missed the Titans game anyway.

Because their next game is Monday (against the Vikings), the Bears will not resume practice until Thursday. But players are expected to be at Halas Hall on Tuesday for meetings and film review.

With so many missing pieces, the Bears started little-used backup Alex Bars at center and debuted rookie Arlington Hambright at left guard. The line struggled, as it has all season, and the Bears fell 24-17 for their third consecutive loss.
