Beamish Museum to launch panto in January and here's how to book

Pantomime will add to the new year attractions at Beamish Museum in January, inviting families to enjoy all the traditional slapstick fun in a period setting.

Dick Whittington is to begin its run on January 7 in the 1950s Welfare Hall at the County Durham museum and tickets are already on sale for weekend performances up to January 29. And families are being promised plenty of music, mischief and mayhem in the show which is based upon the well-known tale of Dick's trek to London, with his cat, to find streets paved with gold.

Presented by the Beamish Amateur Dramatic Society, the short show will take place on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month, with performances at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm. Tickets cost £2 for all visitors aged five and over.

Younger children, and carers, can attend for free but they still need to reserve a space. Pre-booking is essential.

Those wanting to see the show, which will last around 35-40 minutes, will also need the usual Unlimited Pass or Friends of Beamish membership to access Beamish.

To book for panto performances on January 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 see here. Audiences are asked to arrive 30 minutes before curtains-up.

The pantomime is the latest attraction announced for the museum's festive programme which includes its current Twelfth Night celebrations which run up until January 6. Visitors can try traditional punch and Twelfth Night cake; make a Twelfth Night mask; enjoy music and daily ceilidh dancing and discover how first-footing was traditionally celebrated in The 1900s Pit Village.

During the winter season, Beamish is open daily, from 10am to 4pm, until January 8. It then will open only at weekends until February 18 when daily opening will resume until February 26. Then from February 27 visitors will be able to call in Wednesday to Sunday up to the start of the spring season.
