Beamish Museum extends its ice rink for another week and here's how kids can skate for free

Families have a last chance to take a spin on the ice as Beamish Museum extends the run of its open-air skating rink for another week.

The pop-up attraction at the County Durham museum was due to come to an end last weekend but now bosses have made the decision to keep it in action until Sunday.

The rink, decorated in Edwardian style, was installed for the festive season at Beamish 's Fairground site where it has proved a hit with visitors with its offer of a skating session for at least 20 minutes for £5 - or £4 for children.

And in a special deal available over the remaining days of its run, one child up the age of 16 can skate for free with every paying adult.

The rink, which is 20 metres by 10 metres and can accommodate around 70 skaters at a time, offers a selection of 11 time sessions to choose from.

Families can pick up their tickets and boots - if they don't have their own - at the Fairground on the day of their visit. The tickets will go on sale at 10am on a first-come, first-served basis and the session times run between 10.15am and 3.15pm.

As an added attraction for visitors, Beamish is celebrating its 50th birthday year with a series of events, including parties, set to feature on its programme.
