Beaming Meghan Markle leaves Queen's favourite hotel ahead of first event since quit

Meghan Markle has been seen leaving the Queen's favourite hotel ahead of her first engagement since she and Prince Harry announced they are quitting the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex beamed as she walked out of the Goring Hotel in London this afternoon.

Meghan will join Prince Harry at the Endeavour Fund Awards at Mansion House in London this evening, her first official engagement since November.

It's the first time we've seen her in the UK since last year, and it will be one of the last as she and Harry prepare to start their new non-royal lives on March 31.

Meghan was wearing a brown coat with a tie waist belt as she braved the English drizzle. Hotel staff held an umbrella over her head as she walked down the steps and to the car.

She's wearing black strappy heals with pearls on the sides, with her long hair down and over one shoulder.

The luxury hotel is said to be the Queen's favourites and she visits throughout the year.

It's just a short drive from Buckingham Palace and Royals have visited since it opened in 1910.

The Duchess of Cambridge also opted to stay at the Goring Hotel with her mum Carole Middleton and sister Pippa the night before her Royal Wedding in 2011.

The hotel has a royal suite, a two-bedroom apartment decorated with 1920s chandeliers and art deco lamps.

The Goring is the only hotel that has been appointed a Royal Warrent.

The website states: "The closest hotel to Buckingham Palace, The Goring has been a firm Royal favourite for many years, since it first opened its doors.

"The coronations of George VI and Her Majesty The Queen saw the hotel filled with royalty attending these great occasions from all over the world.

"The Queen Mother also famously enjoyed Eggs Drumkilbo – a lobster and egg-based dish that remains one of the most popular dishes in The Dining Room.

"In 1990, George Goring accepted an O.B.E. from Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace for ‘services to the hotel industry’.

"This was followed by the appointment of a Royal Warrant to The Goring in 2013 - the only hotel to have been awarded a Royal Warrant for hospitality services. Royal Warrants of Appointment are a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to the Households of Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh or His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales."
