Beagle scores twice as Capitals steamroll Blackhawks, 6-0

WASHINGTON _ The Blackhawks fell behind early and never stood a chance as they fell to the Capitals, 6-0, on Friday at the Verizon Center.

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville pulled goaltender Corey Crawford during the third period after Crawford allowed his fifth goal of the night.

It all started with the first period, which was a disaster for the Hawks, who allowed three goals.

The Capitals scored 6:04 into the game when Jay Beagle fired home a shot from the slot past Crawford. The sequence began when Micahl Rozsival couldn't clear the puck and Beagle took advantage of pressure from other Capitals forwards to take the lead 1-0.

It didn't take long for the Capitals to follow that. On the next shift, Nicklas Backstrom scored at the end of a quick set of passes. Alexander Ovechkin skated on the left wing and tossed it to T.J. Oshie who gave a touch pass to Backstrom for the goal at 6:17.

The Capitals made it 3-0 later in the period when Brett Connolly snuck a goal behind Crawford after Crawford came out of the crease to defend another shot.

Officials overturned a potential goal from Vincent Hinostroza in the second period after the Capitals challenged the goal claiming goaltender interference. Officials overturned the call of a good goal on the ice after saying Marian Hossa interfered with goaltender Braden Holtby.

The Capitals then added a goal later in the period from Tom Wilson and then Oshie in the third before Beagle added his second of the game to cap off the scoring.
