Beacon Tavern, new spot from owner of The Gage and The Dawson, will open in May

April 25--Restaurateur Billy Lawless (the man behind The Gage, Acanto and The Dawson) announced Monday that his fourth venture, Beacon Tavern, is slated for a mid-May opening in the Riverside Plaza between Michigan and Wabash avenues.

Executive chef Bob Broskey, formerly of Intro, will take the reins of the kitchen, putting out American tavern food with an emphasis on seafood -- think daily fish specials, East and West Coast oysters and a bevy of crudos. Land-lubbers will find classics like steak, and fried and roasted chicken.

Executive pastry chef Kevin McCormick, most recently at North Pond but who worked with Broskey at Intro, will offer items like cheesecake (his mother's recipe) and chocolate banoffee pie (a portmanteau of toffee and banana). The men behind the beverage program are Jon McDaniel and Clint Rogers, who will serve classic American cocktails alongside an affordable wine list and eight draft beers.

International design firm Perkins+Will designed the space, which is going for a rustic but still polished vibe. Reservations open Saturday, April 30, and dinner will be served for the first two weeks. Lunch and brunch will be available after Memorial Day.
