'Be very cautious' - Aston Villa handed transfer advice over move for Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash

Aston Villa must be cautious with how they approach the transfer market, according to former England and Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Villa are understood to be closing on a deal to secure Matty Cash from Championship side Nottingham Forest, with the Reds wanting £15m for their Player of the Season.

Robinson, though, has urged caution around Villa and their transfer spending, after their struggles to remain a Premier League club last season but believes any move for Cash would represent a smart addition by Dean Smith.

“Villa have to spend wisely,” the ex-Three Lions international told Football Insider.

“Matty Cash is a top, top player and he would be a very good addition for them.

“Dean Smith knows that they will have to be very cautious with their spending. They spent a lot of money on a lot of players last summer and it almost did not pay off for them.

“They have to look at signing a goalkeeper.

“With Tom Heaton unavailable for the start of the season they only have Nyland because Pepe Reina has gone.

“That is an area that we are going to see them spend.”
