The family of the late Ruby Stewart are calling on the people of Perthshire to be more like Ruby - and raise money for a good cause at the same time.
Ruby, from Inchture, died on Friday, January 3 after battling with stage four alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
She had been admitted to the high dependency unit at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee only days before Christmas, but sadly passed away in the new year.
Since her death, her loved ones have been running a campaign called ‘Be More Ruby’, encouraging people to be inspired by her infectious smile, and to raise money for more research into the devastating disease.
Now, those behind the campaign are organising a group to take part in Ruby’s Mud Run on Saturday, May 16.
Those taking part will be raising money for Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia Group’s ‘Super Ruby’s Rhabdo Raiser’, a special fund set up in Ruby’s name to raise money for the specific kind of cancer she had.
Her parents Andy and Claire sent out a statement which said: “We’re excited to announce that registration for Ruby’s Mud Run is now open.
“Anyone over the age of three can participate in the mud run.
“Registration is £10 per person (adults and children pay the same).
“The registration fee goes to Errol Primary School for organising the mud run.
“The purpose of Ruby’s Mud Run is to raise money for Ruby’s CCLG special named fund, ‘Super Ruby’s Rhabdo Raiser’ - we are hoping to raise £2000.”
Donations are now being collected online via Ruby’s dad’s crowdfunding page, uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AndyStewart7
Sponsor forms can also be requested from Inchture Primary School, the school Ruby attended, by emailing LMilton@pkc.gov.uk or from the reception at Inchture Hotel.
The forms and money can then be handed into Inchture Primary School’s office or to Andy Stewart by emailing andres.as33@googlemail.com
All those taking part will be given a ‘Be More Ruby’ T-shirt to wear during the race as well.
Andy and Claire says this mud run is the first of a number of events in Ruby’s honour to raise money for research into cancer.
