BCCI panel on Saha likely to hold first meeting on Saturday

MUMBAI: The three-member committee formed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to look into veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha's allegations of being threatened by a journalist is likely to meet on Saturday in New Delhi to discuss the issue.

The committee comprises BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and Apex Council member Prabhtej Bhatia. "At this stage, it's difficult to say in which direction this probe will go. It's not proper for anyone to intimidate a player for an interview, but Saha too hasn't helped matters by going public with what India coach Rahul Dravid, chief selector Chetan Sharma or BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told him at a personal level. He's a centrally contracted player and action could be taken against him for his outburst too," a source said.

Saha last month put out screenshots on Twitter alleging that a 'respected' journalist was threatening him for an interview. Several top former cricketers such as Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Venkatesh Prasad and Irfan Pathan backed Saha and requested him to reveal the identity of the senior journalist.

Saha, however, tweeted saying that he wouldn't reveal the name of the concerned journalist as he didn't want to harm the person's career. However, since Saha is a centrally contracted cricketer, the BCCI decided to constitute a three-member committee to probe the matter.

After being snubbed for the home Test series against Sri Lanka, Saha had revealed that India coach Rahul Dravid had told him in South Africa that he was no longer in the scheme of things.

Recently, Saha was demoted to Group C in the BCCI central contracts list.
