MUMBAI: The BCCI has, for this year, decided to discard the results of the bone tests that it conducted for the upcoming inaugural girls' Under-15 One-day tournament, which will kick off on December 27, and will prefer birth certificates/aadhar cards for age determination instead. The decision was taken in the Board's Apex Council on Wednesday evening.
Normally for all its age group tournaments, the BCCI conducts bone tests for age determination. "When we conducted the bone tests of the cricketers for the girls' U-15 tournament, a massive chunk of players from quite a few states were deemed to be overage-a couple of states would have even struggled to put together an XI as 80% of their players failed the tests. So, for this year, we have decided to consider documents like aadhar cards/birth certificates as age proof for the girls, instead of bone tests. We know that these documents can be fudged too, so we will think of a better option next time," a source told TOI.
Interestingly, the BCCI had initially decided to stage an Under-16 for the girls, before making it Under-15.
Sacked selectors watch 2nd round Ranji matches
It has been more than a month since the BCCI decided to replace the Chetan Sharma-led four-member national selection committee with a new panel, post India's exit in the T20 World Cup semifinals. To be precise, the Board had advertised for the post of national selectors on its website on November 18. However, the previous committee, still serving its 'notice period,' is attending even the second round of matches in the Ranji Trophy.
