BBQ's and garden parties could be allowed from June

People could soon be allowed to host BBQ's and garden parties, as the lockdown relaxing continues.

Under the current laws people are only allowed to mix with their own household and can only meet one other person in a public place outside.

But under new plans people could be allowed to socialise in their private outdoor spaces with other households.

The measure could come in in late June.

Government insiders have told HuffPost UK that the relaxation of the lockdown rules, which could be announced as early as today, is part of Boris Johnson’s desire to give people something to look forward to as Covid-19 cases reduce.

The party plan will come with conditions but could be part of a bigger move to allow people to mix in "social bubbles" of up to 10 people outdoors.

In Northern Ireland, six people from outside a household will be able to meet each other, as long as they follow social distancing rules.

Boris Johnson hinted on Sunday that he wanted extra relaxation of social contacts in coming weeks, as part of a phased approach to unwinding key parts of the lockdown.

Under the government’s plan to exit lockdown, key tests have to be met, including lowering the number of coronavirus cases and ensuring the ‘R’ number of transmission is low enough to prevent a second peak of the pandemic.
