What is Life And Death In The Warehouse about?
Life And Death In The Warehouse follows the lives of Megan and Alys who work together in a Welsh warehouse.
Megan returns to her home village after graduating to help financially support her father and brother, getting a job as a trainee manager in a local warehouse.
Already working at the warehouse is her childhood friend Alys, who is a "picker" and has to keep up with the ever-increasing targets.
Alys is struggling to meet her targets as she is pregnant and it is Megan's job to push the pickers to keep to their targets.
A drop in pick rates can easily result in the workers losing their jobs so Megan ignores her concerns and pushes Alys to keep meeting her targets, putting Alys and the baby at risk.
Unable to keep up, there are heartbreaking consequences for Alys as the programme shows the near exploitation of warehouse workers.
This hard-hitting factual drama is based on years of research, of speaking to anonymous warehouse workers, and creator and director Joseph Bullman was inspired for the series when he visited a Welsh village.
He said: "A few years ago, I found myself in a little Welsh village, which had once thrived on coal. At the time the only prospect for work in this particular village was temping at a vast distribution centre nearby. People would get a text from the temp agency first thing in the morning, but for some, it would be too late to get the bus to the warehouse in time to start work. So some villagers had taken to sleeping in the village bus stop – just in case they got a text from the temp agency that day."
