BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evans' perfect response as he shows 'appalling' abuse scrawled on note

Owain Wyn Evans responded in the best possible way after receiving 'appalling' homophobic abuse. Fans are used to seeing the Welshman bring them the latest weather forecast on BBC One.

It's fair to say he's become even more of a household name after a video of him drumming to the BBC News theme tune went viral during the coronavirus lockdown. Making the most of his new-found musical support, the Welsh star went on to raise £2m for Children In Need by taking part in a 24-hour 'drumathon'.

Owain has now shared how he received an awful handwritten note in the post.

The 38-year-old shared a picture of the note on social media. It read: "You raving b***dy p**f, do you have to be so camp on TV it puts me off my meal! Stay in b***dy Wales were you belong."

Owain posted a picture of the note alongside a photo of himself sitting on his drum set. It shows him kicking one leg in the air while gesturing with both of his arms to either side while smartly suited and booted.

Owain told his followers the majority of messages he receives are 'lovely', but that he wanted to share how he found it 'bizarre' that people go out of their way to send horrible notes. "The vast majority of letters I get from people are so, so lovely," he typed.

"But I still find it bizarre that people take time to scrawl stuff like this onto a notepad and send it to me. Hope this camp pic doesn’t put you off any meals today dahlings!" he added alongside a crying laughing emoji. But he also said: "Warning, letter is hateful in nature."

Owain was flooded with support with former Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown, who wrote: "Good lord!! I’d like to puff them right in the chops! Never stop being you you fabulous human." Rylan Clark tried to joke about the situation, replying: "I was having a bad morning." In on the joke, Owain replied: "All is forgiven babes I know what you’re like before your first coffee of the day."

@andycomfort said: "Appalling and hateful. Why do some people have to be so nasty? Owain reacts with his characteristic professionalism." @LynnGWood commented: "How rude. Stay as sweet as you are young one, you’re you, stay you." @amredmond73 replied: "So sorry you receive bile like this I love seeing you on telly you brighten my day." @scarlett81 added: "You don’t need me to say but you are a beaut of human!! Full of sparkle and joy!! Keep shining!"
