BBC weatherman Barra Best to host new TV show on Derry's River Foyle

BBC Northern Ireland presenter Barra Best is set to swap his day job as a weather presenter to make a journey along the River Foyle in Derry.

Following on from last’s years 'Barra On The Bann' series for BBC Northern Ireland, presenter Barra Best will be getting his wetsuit out again to dip his toes into life in and around the River Foyle.

'Barra On The Foyle', which commences filming this week in adherence with current Coronavirus restrictions, will see Barra travel to the North West to meet those who live, work or play around the banks of the River Foyle.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Barra said he was looking forward to filming the new series in the North West.

He said: “It’s great to be back out filming with the team to showcase some of the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer.

“It’s strange being unable to shake hands with everyone we meet because of social distancing, so a wave and a smile will have to do the job this time round.

“We have a big filming itinerary planned over the coming weeks and we’ve already been with some boat builders and are helping make some oyster stout.

"There’ll be white water rafting and other stuff too.

“We will be up and down the Foyle and its tributaries, so if you see me out and about, give me a socially distant wave.”

The three part series, made by BBC NI, is expected to be broadcast on BBC One Northern Ireland early next year.
